Getting Started In Motocross!
So you want to start Motocross?
In this section you will find all the details you need to get started in motocross. There are details on all the motocross kit you need, and what you should expect to pay for them. This will help you budget for motocross. Please note though that it does not include running costs, as that depends on to many factors to be able to give an accurate guide.
Is it for you?
It does not matter what age, size, sex or shape you are, motocross can provide you with endless amount of fun. The basics of motocross involves you and your bike chasing (or leading if you are really good) other bikes around a man made track (check out some local tracks here). Its great fun to watch, even better fun to join in, but be warned, if you try it, you will be hooked. Oh, and be prepared to get muddy.
OK Your In – Here’s what you need.
Here is a list of the basic ingredients that you will need to start up in motocross :-
A Motocross Bike (often known as a dirtbike or mx bike. Your dad may call it a “scrambler“.)
Motocross Kit to wear on it
A place to ride (motocross track)
A way to transport your bike
A Motocross Club (if you intend to race)
Someone to take or go with you
We aim to provide you with a means to find all of the above ingredients, except the last one. You’ll have to sort that out yourselves. You can view all of the Getting Started In Motocross guides here, where I explain everything you need to know in more detail, and giving you a quick glance into what it should be costing you.
Getting Started In MX Round Up.
Once you have got all of the mx kit to wear, a dirtbike to ride, mx bike transportation sorted, motocross tracks to go to and people to go with, all that’s left is some good fun. Motocross is a very demanding sport on the body, if you want to be anything like the top riders you’ll have to train hard mentally and physically (we recommend checking out the posts in the Motocross Fitness Section). It may be worth going on a motocross training day to help you develop your skills, and they will be able to advise there on training tips. Like anything, it can be tough sometimes, especially if you feel like you are not making progress, but if you keep at it, and enjoy it for what it is, I am sure you will get many years of fun out of the sport, like I intend to. Let us know how you get on.
