Motocross Tattoos
So you have decided (and your old enough) to get a motocross tattoo and are looking for moto tattoo ideas and styles to inspire you and help you make your decision to get a dirt bike tattoo. As with any themed tattoo, you are almost spoiled for choice and limited only by your own imagination.
Famous Motocross & FMX Dirt Bike Riders With Tattoos
One of the most famous dirt bike riders with tattoos is Carey Hart who has his own Tattoo Studio called the Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company, in Las Vegas. He even has his own book about them, called Inked, read about it here. Carey started riding motorcycles at the age of 4 and turned pro racer when he was 18, but is most well known for his FMX career as well as being credited with the first attempt at a backflip on a motocross bike (he nearly made it, but over rotated). Carey (and his tattoos) have featured on lots of motocross and tattoo magazine covers over the years. Read more about Carey Hart here or watch the video below.
Seth Enslow is part of the Metal Mulisha, well known for his big jumps and equally big crashes. Seth was in the original Crusty Demons of Dirt, where he over jumped a sand dune, and then was asked back for the sequel, where he this time under jumped and landed on the Jeremy McGrath’s practice bike (see video below).
Seth started a tattoo shop, and decided to learn to tattoo for himself.
Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg was born in the early eighties and was introduced to dirt bike riding at the age of just 2. No wonder he has won numerous X Fighters and X Games medals in freestyle. Twitch has plenty of tattoos you can use for inspiration, check out this page on Tattoo Lifestylez where there is a lengthy article covering his many tattoos.
Watch these 2 short videos of Josh Hansen to find out the story behind his ink, which is his favourite (done by Mike Spasbo) plus there is some cool riding thrown in for good measure.
Ronnie Faisst of Freestyle Motocross fame is interviewed here in Marked Up, and explains the inspiration behind his first tattoo, what they mean to him and points out the ones he is not happy with.
Brian Deegan is a founding member of the Metal Mulisha (yeah, they like their ink all right!), a pro mx freestyle rider and off road trucking superstar. See his website here – www.briandeegan.com.
Kyle Loza is a freestyle motocross rider born in the mid 80’s and as well as riding he is also the founder of the “Riders For Christ”. And in a rock band. Oh, and a tattoo artist. Learn about his tattoos and music background in the video below (with some mx bikes thrown in).
Chad Reed has a tattoo on his leg in memory of fellow Australian motocross rider Andrew McFarlane, who sadly passed away during practice in May 2010, which was his planned final year of motocross racing. Our sport can be very cruel sometimes, and as Chad explains in the short video, he felt this dirtbike tattoo was a fitting way to remember his countryman by.
